Dennis Bergkamp

Forward

Coach Johan Cruijff granted him the honor to make his debut in the first eleven of Ajax Amsterdam. On that date, 14 December 1986, Dennis Bergkamp was only 17 years. It was the beginning of a stunning career at Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal and the Dutch national team.

Dennis Bergkamp was nicknamed ‘The Iceman', for the piece and control he demonstrated on the pitch. As it also applied to his goal scoring ability. Fans around the world praised the ‘Non flying Dutchman' for his superb technique, learning everyone something about the ethics of the game.

His winning goal for Holland in the World Cup game of 1998 against Argentina is probably the best example for remembering Dennis Bergkamp as the unique player he was. Controling the ball in the air after a splitting pass of Frank de Boer, bringing the ball down through an Argentine defender legs, he finished by firing a volley with the outside of his right foot past the keeper at a tight angle from the right. The fast three intelligent right-footed touches in a matter of seconds were admired around the world.
